About this Case Study

Challenge

BC Place is a multi-purpose stadium and home of the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC of Major League Soccer (MLS). It also served as a Winter Olympics venue. With over twenty years of service under its belt, BC Place was scheduled to close for major renovations including replacing its air supported roof with a new retractable roof. A temporary stadium facility was created at Empire Field, site of the old Empire Stadium, to ensure that all scheduled sports events would continue without disruption. WillScot was asked to add their expertise in temporary solutions to the project by providing locker room facilities and showers as well as all mobile office buildings to Empire Field.

Solution

Thirty-nine modular units were brought in to create the locker room facilities, operations offices, ticket sales windows, washrooms, family rooms and a media lounge. Due to the nature of the project, some of the buildings required modifications from their original configuration to meet on-site requirements while others were ready to use in their original state.

Within 12 weeks of the initial order, we fabricated, delivered, and installed all of the modular units needed to complete the BC Lions and Vancouver Whitecaps temporary stadium at Empire Field. The units were finished with damage-resistant, corrugated steel siding exteriors, double glazed windows, light colored vinyl covered drywall, durable high wear commercial vinyl flooring, electric and HVAC units. With WillScot’s commitment to providing temporary modular solutions on a tight deadline, the end result of the project was never in question. Empire Field was ready in time for the first BC Lions home game.
