About this Case Study

Challenge

Located at the top of North Mountain Drive overlooking the Hudson River, the family-friendly Ardsley Country Club in Westchester County, New York has roots dating back to 1895 and has received support from prominent historical figures including Jay Gould, Cornelius Vanderbilt, J. Pierpont Morgan, William Rockefeller and Arnzi Lorenzo Barber. But early on a December morning in 2014, staff and members watched as a fire raged through the clubhouse, which was built in 1927.

Fortunately no one was injured in the pre-dawn blaze, but once the flames were extinguished and the extent of the damage was assessed, the need for temporary structures became apparent. WillScot was called in to quickly install modular units so the golf course could continue its operations, including member rounds and other activities.

Solution

Due to the club’s location and single access road (only 9 feet wide!), typical modular solutions would not work. But the flexible and versatile 20' x 8' FLEX units could make it up the steep road. We configured several FLEX units to create an 18-piece compound that included a changing room, retail pro shop, golf bag storage area and two office spaces. The retail area featured floor-to-ceiling windows to offer an inviting view of the putting green, with double glass doors to enhance the aesthetic appeal.

In the end, we not only provided modular units with all the custom specifications needed but we were also able to deliver them in a timely and cost-effective manner. The FLEX product made this project a one-month success story for a customer who needed to open a facility on time but still wanted the end result to meet its clientele’s high expectations. WillScot guaranteed not one tee-time was delayed.
