CFB St. Jean-sur-Richelieu
Solution Type: Living
Scope of Project: 18,160 square feet
Time To Occupancy: 4 months
CFB St. Jean-sur-Richelieu has a long military tradition dating back to the 17th century. What began as a fort defending the French colony from the Iroquois Indians is now home to the Canadian Forces and their infrastructure. The base’s Général-Jean-Victor-Allard Building, a mega structure nearly half a kilometer long, houses the Canadian Forces Leadership School and the Canadian Forces Management Development School. Their mission is to integrate, evaluate and develop its officer cadets for successful careers as commissioned officers in the Canadian Armed Forces by means of its academic, leadership, sports and bilingualism programs.
Additional modular dormitory space was needed immediately to help accommodate the nearly 6,000 recruits from all over Canada that come to St. Jean-sur-Richelieu every year. We presented the most cost effective solution and the ability to meet the tight schedule. Their project management team was also impressed by our track record for handling similar, large-scale, military-related projects demanding the utmost discretion and an adherence to strict safety requirements.
We provided (10) 24' x 67' units and (3) 12' x 64' units. In particular, the 24' x 67' units offered the wide open space ideally suited for the dormitories. We also acted as the general contractor on the job coordinating all plumbing, electrical and gas hook ups to ensure the modular living quarters had all the amenities they needed. The gas hooks were particularly challenging as the old gas lines were not marked on any drawings.
Within four month, we completed the project and CFB St. Jean-sur-Richelieu has the additional living space to comfortably and safely house its new recruits.
