Modular Space Solutions Provider Honored with Letter of Commendation for Excellence in Emergency Response and Timely Project Completion
Honolulu, Hawaii (January 22, 2015) – Hawaii Modular Space, a WillScot company and leading provider of modular space and storage solutions in Hawaii, today announced its letter of commendation for excellence in emergency response and timely project completion from the Hawaii State Department of Education (DOE).
The DOE contacted Hawaii Modular Space on September 18, 2014, to devise a solution to provide temporary site for 500 elementary students and staff in the Pahoa and Keeau complex areas that would become displaced due to the ongoing lava flow in Pahoa. Hawaii Modular Space provided 20 classrooms and an administrative and library building. This work included shipping 19 modular floors over 200 miles of ocean to a remote location on the Big Island of Hawaii, modifying the units from office layouts to classrooms, purchasing additional used floors, relocating customer-owned floors, and all the site work including full utilities, stairways, ramps, decking, security systems, and fencing around the school.
“Under an extremely short schedule and difficult working conditions, Hawaii Modular Space proved it was a highly responsive, professional and valued member of our team,” stated DOE superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi. “We are grateful to the space solutions provider for working persistently until the project was complete.”
“We appreciate this recognition and are proud that we were able to provide educational facilities and stability to our local community displaced by this natural disaster,” said Mike Rabang, project manager for Hawaii Modular Space. “We were inspired by the recognition we received from the community and grateful for the support from other local businesses, such as Young Brothers Limited, GW Construction, and Mihara Trucking. Most of all, we were motivated to complete this school on time for the young students.”
The utility and expedience of modular space solutions allowed Hawaii Modular Space to fulfill the local community’s emergency needs quickly. The work took six weeks to complete. On November 10, 2014, the Keonepoko Elementary School at Keaau opened to 430 students in grades kindergarten through fifth-grade.
