Educational Laboratories - Modular Building Applications

Today’s schools are looking to build or expand student laboratories because of many factors:

  • Emphasis on hands-on laboratory science by the National Science Standards framework
  • Need to provide students with necessary life skills or professional development in the general sciences fields
  • Curriculum updates due to scientific advancements
  • Increased student enrollment and interests in science related fields and technology
  • Construction and renovation of existing school laboratory facilities

The flexibility of modular construction makes it an ideal building method to meet the highly specialized requirements of school science laboratories.

Using our Concurrent Construction™ process, Williams Scotsman’s modular laboratory buildings are ergonomically designed to meet all safety specifications required by regulatory agencies such as OSHA, ICC and NFPA.

We will design the laboratory footprint to include separate rooms for laboratory activities, preparation room and storage, as well as such features as:

  • Individual laboratory activity stations for students and instructors
  • Hazardous chemical storage area
  • Fume hood
  • Adequate ventilation
  • Eyewash and acid shower devices
  • Utility shut-off controls including ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI)
  • Safety equipment including fire alarms and extinguishers
  • Ultraviolet (U-V) goggle sanitizer cabinets
  • Chemical-resistant shelving and other materials

In addition, we work closely with you to design a floor plan that meets legal occupancy codes, is ADA-accessible, ensures safe workflow, and provides easy evacuation pathways and exits.
